Taking a look at the different logos in the featured image I guess more than me wonder how the companies behind them all are able to serve the users. Users in this context to be anything with an identity, just to bring in large enough ecosystems. The answer to some extent is the Service Provider (SP) and the different business areas that the definition I have used here covers.
I really belive that the real enabler moving forward will be the Internet Service Provider (ISP). The reasoning behind this statement I guess first comes from my long experience from this business. Secondly that I more and more now see the need for this traditional enabler to take more action in aiding the Software as a Service (SaaS) based companies. The Internet Service Provider business has over the past 10 – 15 years become more mature and have understood the meaning off “always-on”. The ones reading this post understand that I do not have much faith in the current end to end services deliverables in the SaaS business.
I am after uptime guarantees that meet the users, again the same definition of users as above, expectations for always on. Not many outside the Telco industry understand what a Service Level Agreement (SLA) means and if we add 99.96% uptime to this agreement as an example, we have lost 99% of the world ;-). For the users a service is about availability when they want to use the service and that is what we have to deliver. I think the ISP world has enough experience to meet these expectations so I promote the business when ever I can. The sad part in all of this is that there are less and less ISP´s to promote and I still can not understand why!
The image below are logos from the most used browsers in the world and makes the use of services over the Internet easier to find. They also in
my opinion will be one of the key enablers together with the ISP´s to aide the current and future SaaS players become even greater than they already are…
